Sample layoff letter to employee

This is an example of layoff letter written by human resources department informing the employee that he is laid off . You should modify this letter to be suitable for your purpose and situation

I am writing this letter to officially inform you that due to the recent [budget cuts/ reorganization / recession] in the company, your entire department will no longer exist effective [day and date].

Pursuant to company policy, based upon your length of service in the company, you are entitled to [number]working days of notice.

During this notice period, you will be afforded reasonable opportunity to seek alternative opportunities for employment. Please consult with the Human Resources department on your remaining company benefits and severance pay .
